Lived in Kenya all my life...here are some of my favorite trips...in no particular order...
1) Camping inside/on the Mt. Suswa crater inside the Great Rift Valley - FREE!

Highlights:
-Go spelunking down into the largely undiscovered Suswa caves...check out the skeleton of the dead hyena that fell accidently through the a hole in one cavern into another one beneath.
-Climb gauno (bat shit mountain) inside one of the massive caverns.
-Get the crap freaked out of you while packs of hyenas rove around your tent scavening leftovers from your dinner the night before, during the wee hours of the morning.
2) Camping on Crescent Island in the middle of Lake Naivasha - FREE!
Highlights:
-Drink Tusker (kept chilled in the lake, of course) and smoke Sportsman till the wee hours of the evening, before building up the confidence to scour the island for nocturnal hippos grazing and chuck stones at them to see if they charge you or not!
-Rent a Laser/Oppy for a small fee from the Naivasha Yacht Club at the top of the island and sail the lake , making sure to visit the Hippo pools (and don't capsize there) and the papyrus island.
-Make a short day-trip to Crater Lake sanctuary, take the row boat out in the Green Lake in the and if you have the balls splash around in the tepid-green water and frighten the hell out of all the flamingos on the lake.
3) Visit to the Aberdare Country Club and the Ark - $150/night
Highlights:
-Relish the international company, the outlandish stories of the resident "Great White Hunter" and savor the 7 course dinner, served up by staff in dinner jackets
-Struggle out of bed in the middle of the night when the buzzer goes off in your room to indicate that a leopard has been spotted and is stalking his prey at the salt lick. If you are lucky, and I always have been, you will see a kill go down, not more than 50 metres from where you are standing, illuminated by the bright spotlights of the Ark.
4) A Day trip from Nairobi to the Fourteen Falls and Ol Donyo Sabuk (Kilimambogo) - $10 entrance fees
Highlights:
-Visit the Kenyatta-owned Blue Post Inn, just before turning off the Thika Road, to admire the Chania Falls and swing on the lianas overhanging the falls, just as Ron Ely's Tarzan did here back in the 1960's.
-Summoning up all your cahones to acquiesce to the cajoling of the local youths and accept their offer to jump off the falls and re-emerge from the water alive and kicking.
-Climb the Safaricom tower at the summit of Kilimambogo, not far from the grave of a famous Kenyan-American frontiersman, Sir William Northrup MacMillan and admire the views from Nairobi, as far as Mt. Kenya.
-Dare the park wardens by coming back down the mountain once it gets dark out and see swarms of Cape Buffalos coming out of the forest thickets to graze. It is not called Kilimambogo (mountain of the Buffalo) for nothing!
5) White Water rafting with Mark Savage and sons....sick experience...the true taste of Kenya, up close and personal - $80 - $500
